Sit by the fire

A campfire in your browser, voice only. On your own, to pause and listen to your own thoughts, or in a small circle where you tell your stories and listen to each other.

This week by the fire: What home means to me
How it works

How it works

Alone by the fire, for as long as you like.

All you need is a browser, ideally headphones. No account, no appointment.

  1. 1 · A topic

    You bring something along.

The topic of the week, a card from the pile, or simply whatever is on your mind.

  2. 2 · By the fire

    You sit down.

Turn on the sound and look into the flames. No one is waiting for you, nothing is recording.

  3. 3 · A card

    You think it over.

Draw a card and think it through, quietly or out loud. The fire burns for as long as you sit.

  • No account, right in your browser
  • Nothing is recorded
  • Free, as often as you like

Topics

One topic a week. Take it to the fire.

The topic is an invitation, not a must. At the fire, the matching cards are waiting for you.

Campfire Cards

When the conversation needs a spark.

Every evening has its own deck of cards. If you like, draw a card, and the circle goes round. No one has to, everyone may.

Alone by the fire

Free

Sit by the fire on your own whenever you like and get to know it – just as you can write letters only for yourself.

  • Test your microphone and headphones before your first evening
  • Draw Campfire Cards and think for yourself
  • Simply sit quietly by the fire for as long as you like

A fire for your group

With a firekeeper, on your topic

On request

  • Your topic and your own Campfire Cards
  • A firekeeper who holds the evening, with you as guests if you like
  • Your mark branded into the wood
  • Just for you, with an invitation link, in German or English
  • A review in numbers, without names or content

Open evenings for everyone are on their way. If a partner donates the wood, they’re free for everyone.

For your group

One topic. Many small fires.

An evening lasts 90 minutes. All you need is a browser, a microphone and ideally headphones.

  1. MTLJMTKKSREL15 min · Opening

    Everyone at the gathering

To begin, the firekeeper reads out what we stand for and opens the topic, often with a guest who brings it along. You listen and arrive. If you have a question, you raise your hand and speak from your seat.

  2. KMJLTA60 min · Fire circle

Up to six people at every fire

All fires talk about the same topic, with Campfire Cards as sparks. The wood burns for an hour.

  3. MTLJMKAKS15 min · Winding down

Stay a little longer if you like

Back at the gathering. The firekeeper lets the evening wind down, and anyone who likes can share what stays with them from their fire. The fire turns to embers.

  • Voice, not video
  • Nothing is recorded

Why campfires

A different way of meeting each other.

The format

Listening without being looked at.

  • Voice, not video: no screen full of faces.
  • 90 minutes with a beginning, a middle and a winding down.

The circle

Small enough for every voice to count.

  • Up to six people at one fire.
  • A firekeeper holds the space, no one has to speak.

The encounter

People who would never meet otherwise.

  • Across cities, generations and walks of life, and later across borders too.
  • Nothing is recorded. What is said at the fire stays at the fire.

What we stand for

Every evening begins with these words.

I come as me,and you come as you.

Read the whole poem

I come as me,and you come as you.

We listen with care, and speak what is true.

We wonder, we ask, before thinking we know.

We honor a boundary, and respect a clear no.

When we get it wrong,we own it, we grow.

We try to return, yet know when to go.

Whatever may come, one thing stays true:

The human in mesees the human in you

Small circles, voice only, hosted by us: in your team across departments and countries, in your club or your group. Time for each other, and a chance to meet the people behind the roles.

Questions

When do the open evenings start?

We’re building the circles right now. Until then, you can sit by the fire on your own at any time. Groups and partners can already ask for a fire of their own.

What does it cost?

Sitting by the fire on your own is free, and it will stay that way. A fire for your group is something we shape with you, and the price depends on the scope.

Do I need a camera?

No. At the fire there are voices, not video. You need an up-to-date browser and a microphone; headphones are recommended.

How is this different from Zoom?

In a video call you look at tiles and at your own face. At the fire, six of you sit in a circle around a flame, with nothing but your voices. No one has to look good or show where they live. There is a topic, cards to get started and a firekeeper who holds the evening. Nothing is recorded, and after an hour the fire turns to embers.

Are there lighter evenings too?

Yes. Alongside thoughtful evenings there are evenings for telling stories, such as “On the road” or “What makes me laugh”.

Is anything recorded?

No, never. What is said at the fire stays at the fire.

What if someone behaves badly?

At every fire you can reach the firekeeper with one click. You can mute people for yourself and report them after the evening.

How old do I have to be?

18 or older.
